Interesting Fact About Kathmandu Valley

According to Swoyambhu Puran, it is said that Kathmandu valley once was huge pond surrounded by beautiful green hills. The lake was called ‘Nagdhaha’, which was full of snakes and lotus. In the middle of the lake there was beautiful sparkling light coming from the lotus.  Upon hearing about the self appeared light from lotus petals, the Buddhist saint ‘Manjushree’ climbed the hill called Chobar Hill with his two wives and his followers to take blessing from the light. To see the light from close and make able to visit for local he used his sword to burst the valley wall. Then drain the water away of that huge lake. After draining the water from the lake, the habitable field which was perfect for farming was created. Anyone who visit the Chobar Hill can see the gap between the mountains which really does look like it’s been sliced with sword. Buddhist Saint ‘Manjushree’, crowned Dharma Dev as a 1st king of Kathmandu Valley. This way Kathmandu Valley was created.

Kathmandu Valley early was named ‘Manju-patan’, which refers to the wooden temple. The temple said to be built from the wood of the single tree by Raja Lachmina Singh in 1596 CE. Because of the development of the Kathmandu Valley it is said that licchavi dynasty was golden era.

Even though Swoyambhu Puran explains very interesting history about the Kathmandu Valley, the geologist has different explanation. With there own different stories, there are lots of fascinating places to visit in Kathmandu Valley. There are so many incredible touristic places, while visiting you will be never feel bored.

You can do either full day or half day sightseeing tour, customizing your tour according to your interest and time. You can explore many cultural, historical & traditional places in Kathmandu Valley. Normally Kathmandu full day sightseeing covers four places and Kathmandu half day sightseeing covers three places. Whereas full day means 7 hours and half day means 3 hours. If you want to book car or guide for full day sightseeing tour, you will be able to book for six to seven hours where half day sightseeing means three hours only. Day 1
Swayambhunath Stupa

Swayambhunath is also known as monkey temple. Located on the top of the hill offers 360 degree view of Kathmandu Valley. It is approx 20 min drive from the Thamel.

Day 2
Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square is one of the durbar which used to be palace for shah and Mallas who ruled over the Kathmandu Valley. It is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here you can get a chance to see living goddess Kumari.

Day 3
Boudhanath

Boudhanath Stupa is located 11 KM far from the Thamel area. It is one of the largest spherical white stupa. Boudhanath Stupa is center of Tibetan Buddhism.

Day 4
Pashupatinath

Pashupatinath is one of the important holy pilgrimages sites for Hindus devotes. Here you can see cremation ritual taking place. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and here you can see 492 temples, 15 Shivalayas and many more beautiful structures.

Day 5
Budhanilkanth

Budhanilkantha Temple is dedicated to Lord Bishnu. Here you can see huge statue of Lord Bishnu, beautifully carved lying between a ponds. Across the Asia mostly Hindu likes to visit this place. This place is also starting point of hiking.

Day 6
Chandragiri

Chandragiri Hills is very famous hills nowadays. You have to ride cable car to reach on the top of the hill. There is no any other way to explore the Chandragiri. After reaching on the top you can see 360 degree Kathmandu Valley surrounded by hills and mountains.

Day 7
Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Bhaktapur Durbar Square is formal royal palace. After approximately 45 minutes of drive you can reach this beautifully preserved square. This place is live museum of art, architecture which is also famous for its history.

Day 8
Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square is full of fine arts carved on wood and metals. This square holds 21 shrines and built during 17 century by King Siddhi Narasingh Malla. It will take 25 minutes of drive to reach here from Thamel.

Day 9
Dhulikhel

Dhulikhel is a located at 27 km far from Kathmandu Valley and it might takes almost 1 hours of drive to reach here. Like Mount Gaurishanker here you can see lots of other beautiful Himalayas ranges. This place is famous for its shorts hiking routes covering majestic view of Himalayas, cultural attractions, traditional lifestyles of the locals.

Day 10
Namobuddha

Namobuddha is famous for its cultures which is still conserved and followed by the locals. This place mostly people do short hike. Here you can see colorful flattering prying flags most of the places. At Namobuddha mostly people like to visit monastery which was built during 1978.
