Australian Camp Trek is one of the beautiful trek packages especially for those trekkers who wants to collect Lifetime Experience by trekking a short way. The Australian Camp trek, also known as the Australian Base Camp trek, is a popular trekking route in Nepal. Normally people do this trek as a warm up for their log route trek in Himalayas. It offers stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, as well as the surrounding valley and village. Australian Camp trek is located in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The starting point of the trek is usually Kande, which is short drive from the city of Pokhara. The duration of the trek is 1 nights 2 days to complete the trek but it can be extended or shortened according to your preference.
We’ll hike from 680m and reach up to 2400m where Australian Camp is situated. This trek offers you beautiful scenery of sunrise-sunset and you can have a magnificent view of the snow capped mountains just in front of your eyes.
The Australian Camp trek is considered to be a relatively easy trek, suitable for beginners and those with limited trekking experience. The maximum elevation reached on this trek is around 2,050 m/6,725 ft. so altitude-related concerns are minimal. However, it’s still important to have a reasonable level of fitness and be prepared for some uphill and downhill sections. You might see the crowd of foreigner as the route for other trekking of Annapurna region and Australian Camp is half same.
Along the Australian Camp Trek, there are several tea houses and lodges where you can find basic accommodations and meal. These tea houses offers comfortable place to rest and recharge during your trek. Tea houses provides the facilities such as hot meals, rooms with private or shared toilets, dining areas with wood burning stoves, Wi-Fi. The availability of hot showers can vary, some tea houses may charge additional fee for the hot water. In few tea houses you may share common bathrooms and toilets as well.
Tea house during Australian Camp trekking generally offers a menu with a variety of meals including traditional Nepali dishes, Indian cuisine and some international options. Most of tea houses includes Dal-Bhat (rice and lentil soup), mo:mo(Nepali dumplings) noodles, pasta in their menu. The tea houses provides breakfast options like pancakes, omelets, toast. The local food from trekking trails can be quite delicious and filling.
The best time to undertake the Australian Camp trek is in-between March to May and September to November. The weather during these periods is generally stable, with clear skies and moderate temperature. These season offers the most favorable weather conditions and considered the peak trekking seasons in Nepal.
Spring (March – May): Spring is a beautiful time to do the Australian Camp trek. The weather is generally mild with pleasant temperature during the day and clear skies. The trekking trails come alive with colorful blooming rhododendron flowers and lush vegetation which create a picturesque landscape. However you can notice the trails being relatively crowded compare to other time of the year.
Autumn (September – November): Autumn is another excellent time for the Australian Camp trek. The weather is stable which create good visibility. Weather is generally dry and the mountain views are stunning. The trails are less crowded compare to other time of the year which allow more peaceful and immersive trekking experience.

Once ready you will meet your guide and driver then proceed to Kande. Kande is approximately 20 km and takes 1.5 hrs drive from Pokhara. The road is paved and generally in good condition. After arriving Kande you can you can explore the surrounding and starts hike to Australian Camp. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. The trek from Kande to Australian Camp takes approximately 3-4 hours depending on your pace.
During the hike you will pass through beautiful rhododendron forests, small village and terraced fields. Here you will gain elevation and get rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
Early morning you will have your breakfast enjoying panaromic view of Annapurna ranges. Later you will starts your descent back to Kande. The trails follows the same route at the ascent but now you will walk downhill. Depending on your pace it might takes 2-3 hours to reach Kande.
Once you reach Kande you can starts your drive to Pokhara.
